Our Initiatives

  • Food Pantry

The Food Pantry Team will ensure that fresh, nutritious food is accessible to any student who needs it through collaborations with existing campus food pantries, local community fridges, food recovery and food security non-profits, student organizations, and pop-up events. Additionally, we will work to establish our own HUFSI food pantry that will serve the Harvard community and build on efforts to combat food insecurity on campus. We will work in tandem with the other HUFSI committees to enact improvements in university programs and community organizing, with the goal of eliminating food insecurity on campus permanently.

  • Community Service

The Community Service Team is involved in assisting residents experiencing food insecurity in Cambridge and the broader Boston area through volunteer and education efforts. Committee members plan projects, such as food drives and SNAP/WIC participation pushes, aimed at alleviating food insecurity around our city. The committee also leads HUFSI's community partnership program, which serves to increase the reach of our service projects to student-lead programs within the Boston university system.

  • Food Policy

The Food Policy Team is dedicated to addressing food insecurity on the Harvard campus and in the Boston and Cambridge areas. We believe that all persons should have equitable access to fresh, affordable, and nutritious food. Through research, mapping, and advocacy, we aim to identify gaps in food access and promote policies that make this vision a reality. This Spring, the Policy Team will debut with a project focused on  mapping local food deserts and analyzing the impact of limited access to fresh food on physical and mental health. Join us!
